How does The End of Ten impact me?

Microsoft will no longer be supporting Windows 10 with security and feature updates after the 14th October 2025, leaving it vulnerable to any new software exploits, and thus leaving your IT environment open to exploitation.

Microsoft will continue to support Windows 11 with security & feature updates.

Upgrade to Windows 11

The best option for most organisations is to upgrade to Windows 11. Microsoft are offering this upgrade from Windows 10 for free for supported devices and it will maintain your feature & security updates.

How can I check if I can upgrade?

Windows Updates will give you the option to upgrade to Windows 11 if your device supports it. However, you can get a clear Windows 11 eligibility report by downloading Microsoft’s PC Health Check App (linked below). From here it will report if your device supports Windows 11 or if there is a particular issue preventing your upgrade.

What happens if I can't Upgrade to Windows 11?

Purchase New devices

If your organisation relies on the familiarity of Microsoft products & services then you may need to replace your hardware with new Windows 11 supported devices. We can leverage deals through our partnerships with Lenovo, Dell, HP and Acer to supply new devices that meet your needs affordably.

Switch to Linux or ChromeOS

Are your computers not supported on Windows 11? You could extend the lifecycle of your hardware by considering a switch of operating systems to either Linux or Chrome OS. If your School or Business already uses Chromebooks or Chromeboxes then converting to ChromeOS will be the best option.

Extended Security Updates (ESU) Subscription

Microsoft understands that some organisations require extra time to complete their migration away from Windows 10. If you are one of them you can purchase ESU subscriptions for each of your remaining Windows 10 computers to maintain security updates for a year at a time. Spectrum IT can help you obtain these subscriptions.

Why is it a big deal this time?

Microsoft have updated the minimum requirements to install and run the Windows 11 operating system with a strict requirement for a security chip called a TPM 2.0 module. These are not often installed on older Windows PCs manufactured before 2017.

Minimum Requirements

Supported CPUs with 2+ Cores

4 GB Memory

64 GB Local Storage

TPM 2.0 Security Chip
